OLDS — The Olds RCMP’s portion of an investigation that led to a substantial police operation in town earlier this afternoon (Dec. 1) has wrapped up.
Authorities are now informing the public that the areas north and west of Grouchy Daddy’s and the area around Mountain View Plaza are clear.
Police had been on the search for suspects who fled from Sundre following a home invasion earlier in the day. Additional information about the incident is expected to be released by Sundre RCMP.
The Olds RCMP issued a statement this afternoon advising the public of a significant police presence in the area north and west of Grouchy Daddy’s and the area around Mountain View Plaza.
“Police are asking the public to stay away from the area to allow the investigation to continue,” read a portion of the Olds RCMP's statement.
Sgt. Trent Sperlie, the Sundre RCMP’s detachment’s commander, informed The Albertan that there had earlier been a home invasion at a trailer court in Sundre that involved suspects stealing a vehicle.
“There was a second vehicle involved and we are asking Sundre businesses and residences to view their video in an attempt to identify,” said Sperlie, who provided a description of the suspects as being one white male approximately 5’5” tall as well as two black males reportedly tall and skinny.
Although the suspects left the Sundre area, Sperlie confirmed the unfolding situation in Olds is believed to be related.
The RCMP continue investigating this incident and are asking the public to come forward with any information related to these incidents.
