OLDS — Olds RCMP have released the name of a suspect who faces six charges after allegedly stealing used tires and dead batteries from Mountain View Dodge early Tuesday morning.

He is Dana Andrew Myshak, 55, of Red Deer.

Myshak has been remanded in custody to speak to bail on June 18 at Provincial Court in Calgary. He is also wanted on warrants in Calgary and Blackfalds.

Police allege that Myshak broke into the dealership located east of Olds off Highway 2 at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspect, driving a U-Haul truck, rammed the fence several times before he got in.

Olds RCMP were called to the scene by a security company as the break-in was in progress.

“Officers immediately attended the location and the subject fled in the U-Haul through the closed gate causing considerable damage,” Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald wrote in a news release.

“As he fled, many of the stolen batteries spilled out of the back of the truck.”

The suspect drove north in the U-Haul on Highway 2, entered a ditch south of Bowden, then fled on foot through a farmer's field.

A witness who saw the truck told police where the suspect was going. Police dog services from Red Deer were called to assist as officers contained the area.

The police dog tracked the suspect to a wooded area where he was arrested without incident.

“The male was determined not to be in lawful possession of the U-Haul truck," MacDonald wrote.

The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing on the following charges:

• breaking and entering and theft

• mischief over $5,000

• possession of stolen property over $5,000

• flight from police

• driving while unauthorized

• operating a motor vehicle while uninsured

MacDonald praised the dealership’s “high quality” security system.

“It is a system such as this that not only assisted police in providing a quick response, but it also provided real-time and detailed information on the suspect's description, actions and vehicle,” he wrote.

RCMP are also grateful to the witness “whose observations and assistance led to a quick apprehension of the suspect and recovery of stolen property," he said.
