Crews have found the source of a gas leak which occurred Aug. 5 at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 51 Street in uptowne Olds.The leak was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Aug. 5. RCMP, the Olds Fire Department and ATCO Gas employees responded. Construction has been underway at 50 Avenue and 51 Street.By 2:22 p.m., crews reported they had found the source of the leak.Earlier, LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) readings were found to be high in Craig's store.By mid afternoon, crews announced they had isolated the leak and were monitoring the building as efforts were made to lower the LEL levels. By 2:42 p.m., levels were found to be acceptable and crews left the scene. Ventilation to eliminate the gas fumes continued.Once the gas leak was detected, nearby residents and businesses were instructed to shut their windows. Some businesses were evacuated.
