OLDS — Council formally proclaimed Nov. 5-11 as Veterans’ Week in the community.
Acting chief administrative officer Doug Wagstaff explained that while the Town of Olds has always observed the day and week, last year Coun. Wanda Blatz pointed out it has never been formally proclaimed. Hence this year’s proclamation.
Wagstaff noted the week included observance of Nov. 8, National Indigenous Veterans’ Day, as well as Remembrance Day on Nov. 11.
He also pointed out that many events and ceremonies were held across Canada during the week to recognize the sacrifices that veterans made on behalf of Canadians.
