A project to widen Highway 587 west of Bowden is well underway, and should be completed by Nov. 15, if the weather co-operates, a provincial official says.

Jamie Friesen of Alberta Transportation says the approximately $5 million project began Oct. 5.

As a result of the work, traffic has been reduced to one lane on alternating sides of the highway, controlled by flag persons. Drivers are reminded to obey all flag persons, signs and signals.

“Fines for speeding are doubled in construction zones,” Friesen notes.

The work is being done during daylight hours. Motorists should be prepared to stop, with delays of up to ten minutes.
