Sara Jorgensen, 10, started off her summer vacation with a lemonade stand in front of the Olds Hospital and Care Centre (OHCC) with the goal of donating the money she earns to the hospital.

She raised money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary three years ago.

Jorgensen did so simply because she likes doing nice things to help others.

“I like doing it because I feel good when I know that I’m doing something good for other people,” she said.

Joining Jorgensen was her grandmother Shirley Cameron who was impressed with her granddaughter’s initiative to help others.

“I’m pretty proud of her, she worked hard to put this all together, of course with her mom's help and her nana's help,” said Cameron. “It’s all her ideas that are put into it and we follow her lead.”

Together the two were out Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the weather being particularly warm on Friday. But Cameron wasn’t worried, as they had their umbrella to keep them shaded.

Jorgensen had lemonade, fruit punch and cookies for sale; additionally there was a chance to win a jar of jelly beans by guessing how many were in the jar.

Wayne Krejci, site manager for the OHCC, expressed gratitude to Sara for her actions, citing her great spirit of generosity.

“It just goes to show no donor or donation is too small to make a difference in health care in the community.

"We are so pleased and grateful that Sara has taken the time out of her summer vacation to raise funds for her community.

“She serves as a great example of the volunteerism and generosity that we see in Olds residents,” said Krejci.
