The recent Western Premiers Conference in Edmonton saw the provincial leaders discuss everything from resource development to health-care provision.

On the Friday of the July long weekend, I came down the hill and approached the traffic lights. From the time I first stopped for traffic at 3:50 p.m., until I crossed the intersection it took 20 minutes. I imagine it got worse around 6 p.m.

The highlight of my Canada Day was the play The Valiant Five, presented in the gazebo. It was an excellent presentation of history by five very talented women, spearheaded by former Olds resident Mary Hays.

In just a few days Innisfailians will finally see shovels in the ground to build the long anticipated skatepark. The day literally comes at a heavy cost. A million bucks.

It was deep snows and long, cold winters east of Coronation years ago when I first tasted life in the oilpatch. We were putting together well site shacks on location and staying in town. Wind chills and bitter cold temperatures were 70 below.

Every dollar spent on a public library generates an important return on that investment. Libraries and their staff help to lift barriers and assist patrons on the path to a better life.

It's admittedly a rather small thing, compared to some of the other developments in the world these days, but I welcome the new traffic lights at 51st Avenue and 46th Street (Highway 27).

Actions, as the saying goes, speak louder than words. Before becoming Alberta’s premier, Jason Kenney sang a lovely tune espousing the need to “raise the bar of civility and decorum in the legislature.
