With the leadership race for the Alberta Party finally getting into gear with several high-profile candidates now in the hunt, a new era in Alberta politics could be on the horizon.

From what the United Conservative Party would have Albertans believe, Jason Kenney’s recent byelection victory was a stunningly remarkable and historic achievement that will herald the beginning of the end for Premier Rachel Notley’s governing NDP.

The NDP government says its Alberta Climate Leadership Plan will help create jobs, diversify the economy and reduce harmful emissions. The United Conservative Party (UCP) says the plan is badly faulted and will cost jobs.

In regards to the article in the Dec. 26 issue of the Innisfail Province and to being considered a Newsmaker of 2017, I would like to thank editor Johnnie Bachusky and the Province for bestowing such a distinction. It’s a humbling honour.
