PENHOLD - Two males are facing drug and stolen property charges following a week-long investigation by a specialized RCMP crime-busting team and Innisfail Mounties.
RCMP Cpl. Tammy Keibel said in a news release issued on Oct. 14 that the bust was made on Sept. 24 when the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Team (SADCRT) and Innisfail RCMP arrested the pair for allegedly being in possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000, outstanding warrants, as well as being in possession of cocaine, fentanyl and crystal meth.
Keibel said SADCRT members observed a pickup truck hauling a flat deck trailer in Innisfail. She said checks on the trailer determined it was stolen from Sylvan Lake.
“The vehicle was monitored until it pulled into a gas station in Penhold. RCMP entered the gas station and placed the driver under arrest,” said Keibel. “The suspect then attempted to flee by running out of the store, however was apprehended a short distance away.”
She said a second suspect, a passenger in the pickup truck, was arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, said Keibel, a Ford F350 stolen out of Penhold, a flat deck trailer worth $20,000 that was stolen out of Sylvan Lake, hydraulic fittings, and a converted utility trailer containing unique tools worth $100,000 that were stolen out of Innisfail, were recovered and returned to their owners.
Kirk Clark, 35, of Red Deer, was charged with:
• two counts of possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000;
• possession of stolen property under $5,000;
• two counts of ailing to comply with release order;
• two counts of possessing a controlled substance;
• resisting a peace office; and
• driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized and with no insurance.
Clark also had three outstanding arrest warrants for a total of eight charges. These included six counts of failing to comply with release order, failing to stop for a peace officer and driving a vehicle while unauthorized.
Trevor Taylor, 42, of Lacombe, was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and two counts of possessing a controlled substance.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Oct. 22. Clark has been remanded into custody and Taylor has been released from custody on a promise to pay order.
Keibel said many of the stolen tools are still outstanding. She said RCMP is requesting anyone who has information into these crimes to contact the nearest RCMP detachment or local police.
