PENHOLD – A suspected vehicle thief is facing numerous Criminal Code charges following a dangerous police pursuit through town.
At about 10:30 a.m. on March 25 Innisfail RCMP received a call from a vehicle owner saying his red Chevrolet Silverado was just stolen.
Innisfail RCMP Const. Craig Nelson said Mounties located the stolen truck driving in an extremely dangerous manner at high rates of speed northbound on Hwy. 2A and through Penhold.
“This guy was driving, very, very fast,” said Nelson, who was one of the pursuing police officers.
Nelson said RCMP successfully deployed a spike belt on the highway at about 11:30 a.m. that disabled the speeding stolen vehicle. He said the lone male driver was taken into custody without incident.
“I think he knew the gig was up,” said Nelson. “It’s really unfortunate that some offenders are continuing this type of behaviour despite the global crisis we are facing.
“It puts a strain on the resources that are available,” he added. “The truth is that everyone is busy right now trying to resolve this issue and people who are committing crimes are definitely not helping the situation at all and causing more unnecessary grief.”
Jordan Kyle Glasgow, 19, of Red Deer County, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with multiple probation conditions and multiple provincial offenses.
Glasgow was remanded in custody to appear in Red Deer provincial court on March 30.
