PENHOLD — At least four suspects are due in court in Red Deer on Feb. 16, facing several drug-related charges as a result of an RCMP investigation in Penhold.
The drug and property crime investigation began in November.
It involved the Innisfail RCMP General Investigation Section, RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team.
Things heated up on Dec. 23 when RCMP saw a stolen vehicle in the Hawthorne area of Penhold.
Soon afterward, police say they saw occupants of a nearby residence enter that vehicle.
“Despite attempts to flee, RCMP were able to arrest one occupant at the vehicle and after a short foot chase, a second occupant was arrested,” states an RCMP news release issued today (Dec. 29).
Police then obtained a warrant to search the home. They went inside, along with RCMP Police Dog Services.
During that search, police say two more suspects were arrested.
As a result of the search, police say several controlled substances were seized, including GHB, oxycodone, and methamphetamine.
Investigation into the matter is ongoing and several charges are in the process of being sworn for:
• possession of property obtained by crime;
• possession of break in instruments,
• flight from peace officer;
• obstruction; and
• possession of a controlled substance.
RCMP say names of the suspects can't be released yet because the information for the charges has yet to be sworn.
