PENHOLD – Two adult males are facing charges after a proactive police patrol led Mounties to locate a stolen truck that officers had observed driving erratically prior to initiating a traffic stop that in turn uncovered controlled substances.
Innisfail RCMP were conducting the patrol at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 in Penhold when members noticed a truck that was being driven in an erratic manner.
After running the truck’s licence plate number, police said in a press statement issued today – Tuesday, Oct. 31 – that the vehicle had been confirmed as reported stolen out of Red Deer.
The RCMP subsequently pulled the vehicle over and proceeded to arrest both the driver and passenger, who following a search of their persons and the vehicle were found to be in possession of controlled substances that police said “resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, fentanyl, Xanax, non-taxed cigarettes and additional evidence of drug trafficking.”
The two were both reportedly known to police.
Gary Auvigne, 48, reportedly of Penhold, faces the following charges:
• possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine;
• two counts of possession of a controlled substance;
• two counts of possession of property obtained by crime;
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and
• possession of non-tax cigarettes.
Kyle Rasmussen, 33, reportedly of Red Deer, has been charged with:
• possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine;
• two counts of possession of a controlled substance; and
• two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
Following judicial interim release hearings, both accused were released by a justice of the peace and scheduled to go to court in Red Deer on Nov. 21.
