PENHOLD – Highway traffic was shut down and restricted early yesterday evening following a serious two-vehicle local crash.

At around 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 19 Penhold Fire Department crews responded with four units and nine firefighters to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 42 and 2A.

Acting Fire Lieut. Carter Carson said both vehicles sustained heavy damage and the intersection was blocked until 7:15 p.m.  Caron said one driver was treated at the scene by EMS and released.

Fire chief Jim Pendergast said southbound traffic on Highway 2A was totally  shut down with restricted westbound access on Highway 592. Pendergast said crews also had traffic alternating one lane at a time north on Highway 2A, and east and west on Highway 42.

“It took quite a while for tow trucks to respond because of the high workload they were experiencing,” said Pendergast.

He said Innisfail RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
