RED DEER COUNTY — RCMP continue to investigate the shotgun-death of a man during a break-in at a residence northwest of Penhold.

At 3:11 p.m. on Aug. 2, Blackfalds RCMP received a complaint of a residential break and enter in progress off of C & E Trail in Red Deer County. Unconfirmed reports said the home was about five kilometres northwest of Penhold.

When RCMP arrived at the scene, the homeowner was located with injuries and another man inside the residence had sustained a gunshot wound, said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff in a media release.

He said EMS attended and pronounced the male with the gunshot wound as deceased. The homeowner was transported to the hospital where he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries, said Savinkoff.

He said RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been called to the scene and is now handling the investigation.

Savinkoff said there is no ongoing danger to the public.

He said RCMP will not be releasing further details at this time.
