Rodeo enthusiasts will fill the Sundre rodeo grounds this weekend, as they are entertained with bull riding and wagon races for the 10th annual Bulls & Wagons event.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary, each performance has more to offer, according to Jack Nichol, chairperson of the organizing committee.
There will be wild pony races and wild horse races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as chuckwagons and chariots for all three days.
There will also be more bull riding performances on Saturday and Sunday.
As well, there will be a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning and a dance at the beer gardens located on the rodeo grounds on Saturday evening.
Nichol said the event is important to the community.
“Quite a few people like the races and the bull riding compared to the rodeo and when I started doing sponsorship about 14 years ago I had the request ‘when are you going to bring the races back',” said Nichol.
Wagon and chariot races used to be held in Sundre about 15 years ago but were discontinued after a wet year when they couldn't perform, he said.
“We get good crowds. But we need it to be better,” he said, adding on Friday and Sunday there is usually less people in attendance than on Saturday.
