Golf courses in the Sundre area are now closed for the season.
Dean McBride, director of golf for Coyote Creek Golf Club, is grateful the course didn't flood this year, like it did in 2013.
“Comparing it to the 2013 season, we had a great year out here. The weather was good pretty much all the way through,” said McBride, adding yesterday was the last day to golf at the club for the season.
“It was good to basically have a normal golf season again, unlike last year when we had to deal with the flood issues that we had.”
The club hosted a Canadian Junior Golf Association tournament in June as well as the Alberta Ladies Team Classic in August.
At this point there aren't any big events planned for next year.
“Right now we're in the process of getting our permanent clubhouse, which will basically be our restaurant, up and running for the spring of next year,” he said, adding the pro shop is also being renovated.
The Sundre Golf Club closed for the season on Oct. 5.
“Overall we had a very successful season up here. The golf course was in great shape all season,” said Colin Snair, head golf professional for the club.
No big events were hosted at the club this year, but the annual Suncreek Classic held in conjunction with the Coyote Creek Golf Club was a huge success, he said.
The club also offered a “stay and play” package with the Best Western Plus Mountainview Inn & Suites, where a person can pay $199 for two rounds of golf and one night's stay in the hotel.
“We might look to do a big PGA of Alberta event in August of next year. That would basically bring all the best professional golfers across the province to Sundre, so we are keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully we can get something finalized for that,” he said.
The Forest Heights Golf Course located northeast of Sundre is also closed for the season.
