The Sundre Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) is attempting to provide additional convenience for Sundre Arena users and guests.
At the council's Governance Meeting on Nov. 13, SMHA requested the permission from the Town of Sundre to install and operate an ATM machine inside the lobby of the arena.
The association said it was willing to work with the town to form an agreement based on the request.
After installing the ATM machine inside the arena in October, town officials said it had to be shut down because no agreement had been made. However, Dallas Rosevear, president of SMHA, said he was meeting with town administration staff this month to sort out details for an agreement and the ATM machine should be up and running for arena guests by Nov. 26.
“It (the ATM machine) would provide more convenience to users and retain more concession traffic,” said Rosevear.
He said the money made from the concession is provided to SMHA.
This machine would ultimately be of benefit to both parties because people wouldn't have to leave the arena to access cash and there would be an increase of business at the concession, providing more money for the SMHA, he added.
Rosevear said it would also decrease the chances of people leaving the arena to eat elsewhere.
He said hockey teams normally do fundraising activities during games such as 50/50 draws – which require cash. Having an ATM machine would increase sales for these hockey teams who are making the effort to put together these fundraisers.
The idea of the ATM follows the initiative of bringing healthy food options to the concession in October, which Rosevear had said to be a success.
He said the SMHA board has been coming up with fresh ideas on how to increase revenue and traffic.
“I'm not sure why this idea hasn't come up before.”
