Average year for Sundre Fire Department

Sometimes no news is good news.

Town council heard from the Sundre Fire Department's deputy chief Kevin Gamble during its Nov. 23 meeting that the total number of calls this year was about on par with previous years.

As of the end of October, the department had responded to a total of 162 calls, he said.

The bulk of the responses included motor vehicle collisions, 30, medical assists, 44, fires, 13, and rubbish or grass fires, 19, as well as accidental alarms, 17.

“So there's really nothing that jumps out at you in these statistics, any trends that are happening — it's pretty well similar to last year?” Mayor Terry Leslie asked.

“Exactly,” responded Gamble, adding there were no overly abundant calls of a specific type.

“Everything just seems to be flowing the same as it has for years.”

The mayor extended council's appreciation to fire Chief Marty Butts for preparing the department's statistics. He went on to ask Gamble to pass on council's thanks and support to the department's members.

“All the work that you do is very much appreciated by everybody in the community, so thank you.”
