The Sundre rodeo grounds were packed with rodeo enthusiasts over the weekend, as they were entertained with bull riding and wagon races for the 10th annual Bulls & Wagons event.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary, each performance was planned to have more to offer, according to Jack Nichol, chairperson of the organizing committee.
Wet weather prior to the event though created a wet track, forcing the postponement of some events.
There were wild pony races and wild horse races as well as chuckwagons and chariots. There were also additional bull riding performances on Sunday.
A pancake breakfast was served Saturday morning and people danced at the beer gardens Saturday evening.
Nichol said the event is important to the community.
“Quite a few people like the races and the bull riding compared to the rodeo and when I started doing sponsorship about 14 years ago I had the request ‘when are you going to bring the races back',” said Nichol.
Wagon and chariot races used to be held in Sundre about 15 years ago but were discontinued after a wet year when they couldn't perform, he said.
“We get good crowds. But we need it to be better.”
