With the first three months of her one-year reign as Miss Rodeo Canada now in the books, Sundre's Arleta Bowhay says things have been going very well and are expected to really pick up in the coming months.

Since being crowned on November 10, 2011, Bowhay has been keeping busy with lots of public appearances in both Canada and the U.S.

Her activities have included attending rodeos in Las Vegas and Denver, where she carried the Canadian flag, taking part in merchandizing with one of her main sponsors Roper and Stetson, attending a roping clinic in Texas with her brother Carson, attending the Country Roads RV show in Olds, attending the Trappers banquet in Sundre, and visiting with guests at Sundre Winterfest.

“It's been great and very exciting,” said Bowhay. “I've been getting to do a lot of travel, which is something I didn't do much of before. It has been a huge highlight.

“People have been very friendly and wanting to know all about me and my community. A lot of people in the States have been asking me what we do in Canada and make fun of my Canadian accent.” Bowhay is making the promotion of 4-H a big part of her reign, trying to inform people about the program.

Her first rodeo of the upcoming season will be in Trail, B.C. She will also be attending rodeos in Innisfail, Ponoka and many other places.

Of course, she will also be the parade marshall at the Sundre Professional Rodeo in June.

“Sundre is definitely going to be a major highlight,” she said.
