A cancer support group has formed in the community, after a few residents expressed interest to Greenwood Neighbourhood Place (GNP) officials in January.
There are six members currently signed up and the group meets every Thursday. The first meeting was on March 20.
The group was formed to create an opportunity for people who are affected by cancer to get together and discuss experiences, relate to one another, and support each other, according to officials.
“As you can imagine, cancer would be really hard to be going through,” said group facilitator Kim Free.
“All of the members of the cancer support group are diagnosed with cancer, so it's a format for them to support one another. So to talk about their feelings related to living with cancer and to brainstorm about solutions to problems, like sometimes finances can be tricky, or transportation into Calgary,” she explained.
She encourages people to sign up sooner rather than later, because the members develop relationships with each other on a personal level over time.
