The position of the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce manager and Visitor Information Centre (VIC) manager has been eliminated, because of financial issues.
The decision was made by the chamber's executive at a regular meeting on July 10, according to chamber president Marty Mennear. He said the VIC is going to continue to run as usual.
“The main reason why it was done was our financial resources are very tight with running the VIC,” said Mennear.
“Basically, the executive of the chamber is taking over running the VIC,” he said. “It was decided by the executive that we would eliminate the position.”
It is unknown at this time how long the executive will be manning the VIC, he said. Along with Mennear, the executive consists of vice- president Heidi Overguard, treasurer Monica St. Dennis and about five or six members at large, he said.
Gord Moore, who has fulfilled the paid manager position for four years, was responsible for running the VIC, administration duties and administered the chamber, said Mennear.
“Gord did do a great job for the chamber, and we are thankful for all of his efforts and time he's spent contributing to the VIC and to the organization,” he said.
There were a few days of transition after the decision was made, but Moore has now finished his position.
“There comes a time when paths must diverge,” said Moore.
“I have enjoyed my time working for the members and the board in the past four years, but I will be moving on.”
