Sundre RCMP officers believe a medical condition caused a rollover collision in town yesterday morning, sending two males to hospital. A westbound vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound vehicle head-on.
“There was a rollover collision on Main Ave., on the west side of the bridge. A westbound pickup truck crossed the centre line colliding head-on with an eastbound pickup truck,” said Const. Abram Letkeman, Sundre RCMP.
“The westbound truck, as part of the collision, rolled over and landed on its passenger side,” he said.
The accident occurred sometime around 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, in a 50 km/hr zone by FasGas.
“It appears that a medical condition was a factor in the collision,” he said.
The 43-year-old male operator of the eastbound vehicle is a Sundre resident and was released from the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre yesterday morning with minor injuries.
The 37-year-old male operator of the westbound vehicle is a Carstairs resident and was still in the hospital undergoing tests at press time yesterday.
“It appears that the eastbound vehicle saw the westbound vehicle coming and attempted to stop and get out of the way but was unable to avoid the collision,” he said.
He said this is not a common occurrence, as there have been maybe half a dozen accidents as such in the last couple of years for the Sundre detachment.
