Students at both River Valley School (RVS) and Sundre High School (SHS) celebrated the 96th annual Sundre School Fair on Friday.
They were proud to display their artwork they had put effort into during the last school year, and the gym at RVS was packed with all sorts of artwork created by RVS and SHS students.
The fair was open to the public after teachers judged each category and announced the winners.
The categories include composition, social studies, science projects, math, health, penmanship, art projects from kindergarten to Grade 12 and high school cosmetology.
There was also a pet parade held outside of SHS in conjunction with the fair. Pets in this year's parade included dogs, cats, bunnies, reptiles, a horse and a donkey. There was a trick competition, obedience competition and an eating contest.
Meanwhile, the annual Sundre Community Fall Fair was open for adults at the curling rink on Friday. The adult fair is held in conjunction with the school fair each year.
As part of the adult fair, people take part in different classes and submit their creations for several categories and are then judged accordingly.
The categories include baking, sewing and needlework, scrapbooking, handicrafts, horticulture (flowers and vegetables), gardening, painting, woodwork and photography.
This year's event included activities for children to participate in, including face painting, and SHS cosmetology students were braiding hair.
Organizer Joan Dixon believes it is an important event to the community.
“It brings the community together and it shows what we can do,” Dixon said. “I would like to see more people come out.”
Awards were presented to winners of the adult fair on Friday evening.
