Twenty-eight people participated in the community Terry Fox Run on Sunday, and $1,035 was raised for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Organizer Terry Leslie believes it is an important event to the community and was pleased with the turnout.
“The stories I get to hear from people who participate just give me a tremendous amount of hope for those that are struggling among us,” said Leslie.
There were different routes available for participants and the goal of the event was to raise awareness for the Terry Fox Foundation, he said.
Participants donated to the foundation and many walked in memory of people who have been affected by cancer.
“Terry Fox, he would never have considered himself a hero, but his spirit is recognized as a human spirit that's in each and every one of us,” he said.
“He also was somebody who embodied the idea that ‘I may have cancer but it doesn't have me' and that's a lesson and a model to all of us.”
He was pleased to see children participate in the community run because they will also have a chance to participate in the school run later this month.
“I'm always encouraged when the next generation comes out,” he said. “The human spirit of hope continues, through generations, long after Terry Fox finished his run.”
Participants were pleased to have sunny weather for the event, after Sundre was blanketed with 20 centimetres of snow last week.
