Cosmos opens in former White Goose location

New owners have recently opened the doors to a restaurant in town previously registered as White Goose Bar & Grill, after it had been closed for almost two months.

New owners have recently opened the doors to a restaurant in town previously registered as White Goose Bar & Grill, after it had been closed for almost two months.

The new owner of the restaurant is Athanassios Daouthis who registered the business as Cosmo's Sports Bar & Grill.

The business was eligible to operate on May 10, say Town of Sundre officials.

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) suspended the White Goose Bar & Grill's liquor licence on March 26 indefinitely over alleged illegal activity on the business's premises.

“My understanding is the RCMP were on the premises and found illegal substances and under our regulations that would be a contravention of section 69 1A of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Act,” said Jim Stang, communications officer with AGLC.

Two men were charged with possession of a controlled substance after Sundre RCMP officers performed one of their usual bar walks in March, said Cpl. Ryan Hodge.

“We did a check and there was some things that came up that were concerning as a liquor establishment and then we referred it over to the liquor commission,” said Hodge.

“We do bar walks all the time and the members that went through seen some things that were concerning,” he said.

“It was the use of illegal drugs in the bar.”

The business was allowed to continue to operate, but no alcohol was to be served, said Stang.

“We acted based on the receipt of a licensed premises check form that we got from the RCMP detachment in Sundre,” he said.

RCMP charged Curtis Hanna, 47, and Sabvas Sarkissian, 38, under section 4.1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, said Const. Earl Hutchinson.

Sarkissian is related to the people who were the registered owners of the White Goose Bar & Grill, John and Kelliope Sarkissian.
