Noise bylaw relaxed
During the Town of Sundre council meeting on June 17, council passed two motions regarding Canada Day celebrations.
Council approved relaxing noise bylaw No. 818 on July 1 for the celebrations.
Council also approved the town's annual fireworks display on July 1, as the final event of the celebrations, at the discretion and requirements of the town's fire chief.
Economic development session tabled
Council made a motion to table town administration's request of an economic development strategic planning session to be discussed in July, during the council meeting on June 17.
The reason is so Kelly Starling, the town's assistant economic development officer, can be present to better explain the request.
During the governance meeting on June 10, town administration officials requested the approval from council to pay a contractor $3,500 to visit Sundre and conduct the session.
Councillors questioned this because town staff and councillors recently attended a session and councillors said they didn't believe a second session was needed.
Dean Pickering, the town's chief administrative officer, said the recent session did not provide enough direction for staff and that the second session would be with a different contractor.
Town administration officials are looking for more specific direction from council on what it believes should be priorities in the economic development department.
Fire advisory committee appointment
Two Town of Sundre councillors were appointed to the Fire Advisory Committee during the council meeting on June 17.
Council appointed Cheri Funke and Tony Jordan to the committee, with Myron Thompson as an alternate member.
The committee is regarding the new version of the fire services agreement between the town and Mountain View County, which was passed during the May 21 council meeting.
Others appointed to the committee in addition to the councillors are Dean Pickering, the town's chief administrative officer and Marty Butts, the town's fire chief. Two Mountain View County councillors as well as an administrative representative from the county also sit on the committee.
The committee is to meet twice a year, in April and in September. In April the committee will go over the winter season and discuss the start of the summer season. In September it will discuss budget, prior to budget adjustments.
2,591 pounds of food donated
The Town of Sundre's annual spring community food drive brought in 2,591 pounds of food, with an approximate value of $6,478, for the Mountain View Food Bank.
The town conducted the food drive earlier this month. Officials dropped off donated Sobeys grocery bags at each residence in Sundre between June 3 and June 7.
On June 8, town officials and volunteers in the community drove around town to pick up all of the bags and then a representative from the food bank took the collected bags to the food bank, which is located in Olds.
Town officials and volunteers at the food bank are extremely pleased and grateful for the amount of food collected.
