Members appointed to SEDIF committee
Four Sundre residents have been appointed to the Sundre Economic Development Initiatives Fund (SEDIF) evaluation committee.
During the council meeting on April 15, council appointed Wendy Morton, Roy Cummings, David Todd and Velma Vincent to the committee.
Coun. Chris Vardas was appointed to the committee during the council meeting on Feb. 19.
SEDIF is to support new events in town that draw people from outside the community to Sundre.
This is the second year the town is providing the SEDIF grant.
In the 2013 budget, $4,000 was allocated for this grant, but there is a maximum of $1,000 for each applicant.
The applicants will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and the committee will determine which applicants meet the requirements.
Company awarded for corridor enhancement plan project
Council voted to award $38,928 to Genivar Inc. for the town's corridor enhancement plan project, during the April 15 meeting.
Genivar Inc. is one of eight companies that made a proposal for the project, which town administration thought to be the most suitable.
Also approved is the cost of printing and advertising related to public communication.
Rental, food, beverage and other miscellaneous costs relating to public engagement sessions have been approved as well.
In the town's 2013 operating budget, $50,000 is allotted for the project.
Also during the meeting, council approved for the difference to be used for the additional costs.
The corridor enhancement plan project is to beautify Highway 27 passing through Sundre.
It also involves addressing functional issues in the downtown area, such as walking accessibility and availability of parking.
FortisAlberta for town's electric distribution
The Town of Sundre is now partnering with FortisAlberta for the town's electric distribution system franchise agreement.
Council passed first, second and third reading of the new agreement during the April 15 meeting.
The town's previous electrical distribution bylaw franchise agreement was with Utilicorp Networks Canada (Alberta) Ltd.
The new agreement provides municipalities with reporting, limiting liability and ensuring satisfaction on ground reclamation work completed by FortisAlberta.
