SUNDRE - The Town of Sundre is reminding residents that regardless of the Canada Post strike, utility bills must be paid on time to avoid penalty.
The municipality issues utility bills by the seventh business day of each month and they are due upon receipt. Penalties are applied after the 30th day of the month.
The Town of Sundre notes that October's utility bills were mailed Nov. 8 to all residents and businesses.
“It is your responsibility to ensure payment is received on time to avoid the assessment of late payment penalties. If you have not received the utility bill mailed on Nov. 8th, please contact the Town of Sundre,” a Nov. 14 statement from the municipality says.
On the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) issued a 72-hour strike notice to Canada Post for both the rural suburban mail carriers (RSMC) and urban operations bargaining units.
The union’s national executive board decided that a nationwide strike of both bargaining units would begin on Nov. 15 as of 12:01 a.m. Eastern time.
Mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered for the duration of the national strike.
Town of Sundre utility customers are encouraged to sign up for e-billing. The municipality also offers pre-authorized debit payments.
