Several emergency responders from Sundre and the surrounding area responded to a 911 call on Sept. 7 after a 57-year-old man threatened to harm himself with a firearm.
When they arrived at around 4 p.m. the tense situation had ended tragically.
“Upon arrival at the rural residence, located north of Sundre, the male was found deceased,” said Sundre RCMP Sgt. Jim Lank in a press release. “Foul play is not suspected.”
The man was from the Sundre area and the original 911 call was made at about 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
A number of intersections in Olds were shut down around 6 p.m. while the RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted Sundre RCMP.
An RCMP Alberta tweet around the time of the call read: “There is a contained situation near Sundre. The public is not at risk, but is advised to stay away”.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week to determine the cause of death.
The man's family has requested his name not be released.
