Sundre's volunteer fire department has once again saved the day.
A couple who live just west of town are commending the fire department for their “speedy response” to eliminate hungry flames attacking their garage a couple of weeks ago.
“It started about quarter after 10 p.m.,” said Kari Young, a Rge. Rd. 6.1 homeowner.
“We smelled smoke and we looked out and our garage was actually on fire,” she explained.
However, she was grateful during this time to have a separate garage that is not attached to the house.
After 911 was called the fire department arrived on scene within 15 minutes, she said.
The firefighters stayed on scene for approximately two hours, but had the fire out within the first hour, she said.
They stayed until they made sure everything was out.
“We believe it was electrical,” she said, adding that no one was injured.
The cost of the damage is undetermined at this point and is currently being investigated by insurance adjusters.
“It's taking a little while for them to sign it off,” she said.
“There could be more damage with a lot of the content that was inside as well, so we don't know a cost yet.”
Along with her husband Justin, she is thanking the firefighters for their hard work.
“It could have been a lot worse but it wasn't, because of the quickness of the fire department and their professionalism,” she said.
“We are proud to have such a dedicated fire department.”
