Sundre Fire Department investigators are still investigating the cause of a blaze that destroyed a mobile home west of Sundre on Oct. 12

Fire Chief Marty Butts said his department received a call at about 5:20 a.m. from a man who noticed the fire while passing by a rural residence, three kms west of Sundre, just off Hwy. 584.

Butts said one pumper, a tanker and a command truck immediately responded. He said when fire crews arrived shortly after, the trailer home was “fully engulfed” with flames.

He said no one was inside at the time of the blaze.

“The owner was out of town. He was due back the next day. His parents were looking after it,” said Butts, adding no animals were in the house. “I saw the parents later and they were pretty shocked.”

Butts said the fire was eventually put out. However, he added a cause has yet to be determined.

“It is hard to find a cause when it (home) was so far gone,” said Butts, adding his department does not believe the fire was started from “suspicious” circumstances.

Butts added that while the home is a complete write-off it could have been worse.

“Yes, he lost everything, all his personal belongings but fortunately he was not home and there were no animals inside. And he had insurance,” said Butts, who could not give an estimated dollar value of the loss.
