Fish and Wildlife officers now operating in Sundre and elsewhere in the province will soon be moving from Sustainable Resource Development to the Solicitor General Department.
SRD spokesperson Darcy Whiteside said details of the changeover are still being worked out and a timeline for the switch is also still in the works.
“We have very limited details on the change right now,” he said. “They are transitioning the Fish and Wildlife officers from SRD to Solicitor General and Public Security. The details haven't been worked out so currently the timeline hasn't been defined. It's in the very early stages.”
There are two officers currently stationed at the Sundre Ranger Station. They patrol throughout the wilderness area west of Sundre.
Whiteside said at least until the changeover “it will be business as usual, with more details being forthcoming.”
“Fish and Wildlife officers will continue to do enforcement and play roles in education and conservation,” he said.
He could not say if the changeover will impact the level of service in the Sundre area.
“As we get more details, we will be keeping everybody informed,” he said.
