Foothills Lodge employees help to keep seniors active

Employees at the Foothills Lodge in Sundre, which is owned and operated by Mountain View Seniors' Housing, believe it is important to keep seniors active.

Employees at the Foothills Lodge in Sundre, which is owned and operated by Mountain View Seniors' Housing, believe it is important to keep seniors active.

“We try and do something special for them at least once a month besides all of the other activities we do on a daily basis,” said Cindy DeSmit, activities coordinator at the lodge.

She said it's important for seniors to get outside for some fresh air regularly.

“It is important only because it helps with mental, emotional and physical ability. So it all kind of comes together and keeps everybody energetic and smiling and that's basically what we want to see,” she said.

A community barbecue and vintage vehicle show was held outside of the lodge on Aug. 1, sponsored by ACL Manufacturing Inc. and Patkar Ltd.

“The event was just an appreciation to our residents to encourage socialization and get them outside,” she said, adding the event wouldn't have been possible without the sponsors and the people who brought their vehicles for the show.

Employees are busy planning a resident and family barbecue to be held later this month.
