SUNDRE – A pre-Halloween fundraising event jam-packed with activities for all ages generated not only about $2,000 for the Sundre Community Van Society, but also plenty of donations for the Plus 1 Emergency Food Hamper program.
The Sundre & District Historical Society, the Sundre Municipal Library, and the Sundre Royal Purple #191 teamed up to host on Saturday, Oct. 29 a multitude of Halloween events and activities that were largely held at the museum and its historic village grounds that was haunted for the night, as well as an adult dance that was hosted at the Sundre Elks Lodge #338.
The groups all raised funds for the Sundre Community Van Society, with food items also being collected by the library and museum for the Plus 1 Food Hamper program run out of McDougal Chapel.
A little more than a combined $2,000 was raised for the community van, with the Royal Purple contributing $980, the museum another $552 and the library providing an additional $474.
The Sundre Community Van Society is endeavouring to raise enough funds to replace the organization's bus, while Pastor Kent Janz of McDougal Chapel told the Albertan late this summer that the size of food hampers had been growing.
