SUNDRE – Residents have been advised by the municipality that a cow moose and newborn calf have reportedly been seen in the Snake Hill area.

In a statement posted earlier today – Monday, May 27 – on the town’s website as well as social media, officials cautioned the public about the potential to inadvertently provoke a defensive response from a protective moose cow that’s caught by surprise.

“Cow moose protecting their young can be easily provoked into an attack,” reads part of the statement.

“Alberta Fish and Wildlife is aware of the situation and will be monitoring them closely.”

Visit the provincial government’s website for more information about moose-human encounters and the steps to take in such an event.

Regardless of the situation, people should always maintain a wide distance from any wildlife even if the animal(s) appear to be calm or friendly.
