SUNDRE — Organizers of a pre-Halloween community carnival were pleasantly surprised by a surge in attendance this year.
The Sundre & District Historical Society, the Sundre Municipal Library, and the Sundre Royal Purple #191 teamed up to host on Saturday, Oct. 29 a multitude of events that were largely held at the museum and its historic village grounds.
“We’re going to need more space next year,” said Joy Willihnganz, the Sundre Municipal Library’s manager, who was busy writing down onto paper bags the names of children who enthusiastically attended in the hopes of playing some games and along the way scoring some treats.
There were six indoor activities at the museum’s round building plus another four outdoor activities. The family-friendly event brought out nearly 230 people, which was up significantly from about 70 last year. Almost halfway through the two-hour family-friendly carnival, organizers made impromptu arrangements to top-up on treats.
And that didn’t account for those who later dropped by the village grounds to brave a haunting as well as a crowd that came out for an adult dance hosted by the Royal Purple at the Sundre Elks Lodge #338.
Food donations accepted as admissions went to the Plus 1 Emergency Food Hamper program run out of the McDougal Chapel, while monetary contributions from the carnival amounting to $475 were allocated to the Sundre Community Van Society.
