Hundreds of Sundre residents came together to pull off yet another Sundre Community Christmas Dinner.
Two hundred meals were served, making it the largest turnout to date.
ìYou should have seen the teamwork up at that Christmas dinner. It's just fantastic,î said organizer Lourelle Vooys.
ìI think I've run out of words because I just can't believe what happens when you get a bunch of hearts together.î
This year 144 residents volunteered to make the event happen. Last year there were 98 volunteers.
Vooys was extremely pleased with the turnout. Last year 190 meals were served and the organizers ran out of food within an hour and a half.
This year they prepared more food and actually had leftovers, but not much, she said.
The dinner was held at West Country Centre on Christmas Day. Guests enjoyed turkey, ham, stuffing and all the fixings, while visiting and listening to entertainment.
Vooys believes the event has been going on for about 30 years, and this was the second year she organized it.
The Love, Hope and Faith team of Sundre -- which involves 11 Christian churches within the community -- took on the responsibility starting last year.
ìIt's just growing and growing and growing,î said Vooys, noting that individuals as well as families attended the dinner and guests were of all ages.
Everything was donated by local people and businesses, including all of the food, napkins and punch.
She said it is an important event for Sundre because it gets the community together.
ìIt's from the heart. Give and it comes back. Pay it forward. That's what Christmas is about.î
