Liquor licence suspended over alleged illegal activity

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) has suspended the White Goose Bar & Grill's liquor licence indefinitely over alleged illegal activity on the business's premises.

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) has suspended the White Goose Bar & Grill's liquor licence indefinitely over alleged illegal activity on the business's premises.

“My understanding is the RCMP were on the premises and found illegal substances and under our regulations that would be a contravention of section 69 1A of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Act,” said Jim Stang, communications officer with AGLC.

The licence suspension went into effect on March 26.

“At this point it's an indefinite suspension; I don't know when it will be lifted,” he said.

Two men were charged with possession of a controlled substance after RCMP officers performed one of their usual bar walks last month, said Cpl. Ryan Hodge.

“We did a check and there was some things that came up that were concerning as a liquor establishment and then we referred it over to the liquor commission,” he said.

“We do bar walks all the time and the members that went through seen some things that were concerning,” he explained.

“It was the use of illegal drugs in the bar.”

Although the restaurant appears closed, it is allowed to continue to operate, but no alcohol is to be served, said Stang.

“We acted based on the receipt of a licensed premises check form that we got from the RCMP detachment in Sundre,” he said.

RCMP charged Curtis Hanna, 47, and Sabvas Sarkissian, 38, under section 4.1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, said Sundre RCMP Constable Earl Hutchinson.
