The municipal peace officer has already dealt with a number of loud music complaints as summer unfolds.
There are more noise complaints in the summer than in the winter in Sundre, according to the town's peace officer, Kevin Heerema.
A common noise complaint in the summer is loud music, because people often open their windows, Heerema told council during the workshop meeting on July 14.
He said there aren't many noise complaints in the winter, other than the occasional truck idling.
According to Bylaw No. 818, which is to regulate and control noise, noise is defined as: “any sound that annoys, aggravates, endangers or disturbs humans or animals, or which detracts from the comfort, peace, or repose of humans, including any loud music or outcry, clamour, shouting, or any other sound that is loud, harsh or otherwise undesirable”.
Someone who violates the bylaw could be fined up to $10,000.
The minimum fine is $200, except for people who own a vehicle with engine retarder brakes and use the brakes in town where there are signs prohibiting it, the minimum fine is $400.
He presented the bylaw to council members for discussion during the meeting.
