Musician looking forward to showcase

Sixteen-year-old Sundre High School Grade 11 student Noah Bradley has been playing music for the past eight years – and, thankfully, he's finally getting over his nervousness about performing in public.

“I have turned my nervous energy into a more collaborative energy,” said Bradley. “I do that by kind of losing myself in the music that we are playing. You have to channel everybody out and focus on your instrument and the people you are playing with.

“You've got to pretend that audience isn't there, but actually you can't usually see the audience when you are on stage because of the bright lights and that's good for me.”

Bradley will perform with three different bands at the upcoming Sundre Showcase 2012, which takes place at the Arts Centre on April 18 and 19.

In one band Bradley will be joining five other musicians to perform the Journey hit “Don't Stop Believin'”. He will be singing and playing acoustic guitar.

“It's a song that everyone knows and it's a fun song to participate in, including the audience,” he said.

In another band, this one with six members, Bradley will be performing piano and vocals on “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons.

He will also be performing “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele as a member of the Sundre High School Band.

“That should be one of the highlights of the showcase,” he said. “That's a song that everyone knows.”

Bradley is encouraging everyone to come out to this year's showcase.

“There will be lots of great performances,” he said.

Band teacher Dianne Irvine calls Bradley a talented musician.

As well as his musical pursuits, which also include composing his own songs, Bradley is also involved with making videos and participating in school sports.

Bradley says he may continue his musical career after graduation in 2013.

“I'm looking at maybe doing a music minor when I'm at university,” he said.
