Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) officials will find out in a few weeks if they were successful in their bid for grant funding to build a new facility in Sundre.
ìWe've been spending the last year with the Sundre seniors and the town trying to prepare a solution for the demand that's evident there,î said Sam Smalldon, chief administrative officer of MVSH.
ìWe did a study on the demand to prove that there is demand for this unit and more,î he said.
The organization applied for Affordable Supportive Living Initiative (ASLI) funding, which is available for developing projects in areas with the need for affordable supportive living accommodations.
MVSH officials declined to say how much funding had been applied for.
The proposed facility would consist of 103 units, including 40 ìlevel four and four-Dî supportive living units, he said.
As well, 45 replacement beds would be moved from Foothills Lodge over to the new building, as ìlevel one and two lodge unitsî.
The remaining 18 are independent living ìlife leaseî units, similar to a recent project in Olds, he said.
Three different housing options for seniors are being proposed for inclusion in the new building, he said, adding it would provide for an all-in-one care campus.
ìWe presently have 15 care centre beds at the hospital and this would be to increase the number of beds in Sundre for that level,î he explained.
ìWhat we're providing is an option in a project that allows for someone to move from independent through to staying in the community for the rest of their days, basically.î
MVSH submitted an application for the competitive bid on Feb. 22 and will find out if they were successful on March 29, he said.
The building would be completed within two years and the location is undecided at this point.
ìWe're very excited.î
At a council meeting last month, council agreed to provide a letter of support for the project.
They supported securing 11 acres of land through acquisition or a public private partnership to lease to MVSH.
A motion also passed reading that the Town of Sundre will financially support any future operating deficit and debt servicing that would result from the construction of the new facility.
