The Town of Sundre's bylaw officer is reminding residents to keep their yards maintained, as one property owner has already been asked to clean up their property this summer.
In recent weeks, a notice from the municipality was posted on the front door of the house located on 511 Centre Street.
According to the town's Weeds, Grass and Plants Bylaw, the property owner has two weeks to clean up the property from when the notice was given.
“If the grass is cut evenly and it looks well maintained and cared for then that's fine. If it's obviously like that one there, you know, we got grass pushing three to four feet high, especially up against the fence there, then that's where we've got to get that looked after,” said Kevin Heerema, the town's bylaw officer.
“It (the bylaw) requires people to maintain any plants, grass on their property, that kind of thing,” he explained.
“There's no specific height. You don't have to cut it down to one inch or something like that,” he said, adding that it has to be generally maintained throughout the year.
If the property owner fails to comply with the reminder, then an order will go out under the Municipal Government Act ordering them to comply with the bylaw, he said.
“Typically what I'll do, now that we've got this nice weather, is take a look around town at anybody who maybe hasn't addressed their properties and the maintenance concerns that come up throughout the summer, by cutting grass and weeds and that kind of thing,” he explained.
“I'll go around and I'll post a reminder notice to folks that they have to do that and some people aren't aware that they have to look after the strip along the back fence, like on the back of an alley or something like that,” he said. “Even if they have a side lot with a fence along the side.”
