November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Sundre

Sundre council supports request brought by Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society

SUNDRE — The municipal council has agreed to support a request by the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society to proclaim November as Family Violence Prevention Month.

According to background information that was compiled by administration courtesy of correspondence received from the society and included in council’s agenda package for a meeting  last month, Alberta has among the highest rates of domestic violence in the country, compounded by a rise in the severity of violence.

Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, told council the society has expressed a desire to raise awareness about the warning signs of family violence as well as the available resources and supports in the community for those who are affected by domestic violence.

Council went on to carry a motion proclaiming November 2022 as Family Violence Prevention month in Sundre.
