Original logo artist proud of its longevity

The original designer of a logo recreated as a new mural in the RiverValley School (RVS) gym is proud to see it redone.

“I'm happy that they're still using that design. I love Sundre and I still think of it as home,” said Amanda Fisher.

Although she lives in Calgary now, she grew up in Sundre and attended River Valley School.

In the summer of 1995, she created and painted the design of an eagle beside a crest that reads “RVS” in the gym. The design represents the sport mascot for the school; it reads “Sundre Eagles”.

“I was approached by the principal at the school at the time because he had heard from past teachers that I was an artist,” she said.

She was attending Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) at the time and graduated in 1998.

After graduation, she picked up a few different jobs, including graphic design for automotives and working at a prop-making studio.

She now works as a communications coordinator for the faculty of medicine at the University of Calgary.

She says she always had an interest in drawing and has been painting for as long as she can remember.

“It was a nice opportunity for a student to be able to do that,” she said.

The design was replicated last month by Melissa Shippy, a local artist and owner of Muralista Painting.
