Sundre's Peak Theatre Players performed four sold-out shows of the production Fawlty Towers over the last two weekends.
“The cast went through the paces very successfully. It was well received by the audience; people seemed to enjoy it quite a bit,” said Brian Bailey, director of the play.
About 20 members of Peak Theatre Players participated in the play at the Sundre Arts Centre on June 15, 16, 21 and 22, after several weeks of practice.
“We've never done a show like that before, so it was exciting to try something totally different and have it succeed,” he said.
Fawlty Towers was a British television sitcom in the 1970s and John Cleese and Connie Booth wrote the play, he said. John Cleese was also the principal actor and comedian in the show, he said.
“It was a show that took place in a mismanaged hotel and Fawlty always had a habit of getting himself into trouble and then find his way out,” he said.
Members of Peak Theatre Players are planning their next play for October or November, he said.
“This goes well beyond volunteerism. People spend many, many hours practising,” he said.
“We do it because we love doing it.”
Peak Theatre Players is a non-profit organization that involves volunteers in the community taking part in producing plays. The group tries to put out three plays a year, is based in Sundre and was founded about 31 years ago.
