SUNDRE — A male suspect who was arrested and charged last August following a dangerous police chase that spanned through several police jurisdictions and ended with the deployment of spike belts and an RCMP cruiser being fired upon, has been sentenced.
Another man who was also taken into custody at the time and charged in connection with the crime spree, is due back in court next month.
On Aug. 12, 2020, Sylvan Lake RCMP were advised by Calgary Police Service just after 11 p.m. that a stolen vehicle was in their area.
A subsequent and dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ensued involving multiple police detachments including Sundre, with two suspects eventually being apprehended just before 4 a.m. on Aug. 13, police reported at the time.
Alexander Michael Talbot was found guilty on May 6 of the following charges: operating a vehicle while prohibited; fleeing from police; as well as theft of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to 22 months, less six months pre-trial custody and summers credit, along with a three-year driving prohibition.
Co-accused Kenton Charles Butters, who faces 20 charges including discharging a firearm with intent to injure, assault with a weapon, dangerous driving and flight from police, is scheduled for a summary disposition on June 9 in Red Deer provincial court.
