Sundre mayor Terry Leslie believes former Wildrose party leader Danielle Smith recently crossing the floor to the Progressive Conservative party could be a positive thing.
“When I listened to Jim Prentice when he became premier of the province I felt a sense of trust that there was going to be a direction that was back on track,” said Leslie.
“When I listened to Danielle Smith speak last week about the reasons why she chose, and other members of the Wildrose party chose to walk across and become members of the PC party, she spoke of the difficulty with partisanship,” he said.
“So if the PCs reject good ideas from the Wildrose, that's not healthy for Alberta. So when she said ‘we believe that we could advance the cause of conservatives', that would be the benefit to Alberta,” he explained.
“When you combine and say ‘we are moving forward together', that is a positive.”
He believes people should be focusing on what's in Alberta's best interest, rather than getting tied up in the emotions involved with the many members of the Wildrose party crossing the floor over the past few weeks.
“We need to focus on solutions and answers rather than inter-party disagreements,” he said.
“Our attentions need to be focused on a bigger picture, like the sustainability and the ability for our province to move forward in economically difficult circumstances, not petty emotional rivalry between parties.”
