A middle-aged man was flown via STARS to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary after rolling his quad in the Sundre area last week.
Members of the Sundre fire department and EMS attended the scene and made the call to dispatch STARS when they saw the state of his injuries.
“Two friends were out quadding and they were just going down a trail beside the road and had come up to an unexpected dip in the trail,” said Marty Butts, the Town of Sundre's fire chief. “He was going too fast for the conditions and he rolled his quad.”
“He had major back injuries so we called STARS to pick him up,” he said.
The man is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries.
The accident occurred outside of town on Burnstick Lake Road last Wednesday afternoon.
“When you've been thrown from a quad or a vehicle, that's automatic where we dispatch STARS in remote areas and the nature of his injuries determined that.”
