Sundre area breaks May 10 high temperature record

SUNDRE – The Sundre area was one of 10 locations across the province to break high temperature records Friday.

According to Environment Canada's weather summary issued Saturday, the temperature rose to 25.6 C at the Sundre Airport on May 10. 

That’s a new record for the date, the federal agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993. 

The previous record high for the area on May 10 was 21.9 C set in 1995.

The following areas also set a daily maximum temperature record on May 10 (temperature values given in degrees Celsius):

Beaverlodge area - New record of 25.5. Old record of 25.0 set in 1988. Records in this area have been kept since 1912.

Bow Island area - New record of 26.1. Old record of 24.4 set in 1965. Records in this area have been kept since 1961.

Fort McMurray - New record of 28.1. Old record of 27.9 set in 1989. Records in this area have been kept since 1908.

Hendrickson Creek area - New record of 19.0. Old record of 18.4 set in 2015. Records in this area have been kept since 1995.

High River area - New record of 26.5. Old record of 25.5 set in 1993. Records in this area have been kept since 1913.

Highvale area -  New record of 26.3. Old record of 20.5 set in 2011. Records in this area have been kept since 1977.

Nordegg area -  New record of 24.4. Old record of 23.3 set in 1951. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

Red Earth Creek area - New record of 26.5. Old record of 24.5 set in 2023. Records in this area have been kept since 1994.

Rocky Mountain House area - New record of 27.2. Old record of 26.7 set in 1917. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

The temperature records reported here have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record and may contain preliminary or unofficial information.
